Will "Y'all" Fall for the Hustle Again?

After Mr. Obama’s election victory, I remember looking at the scene of jubilation and excitement on the faces of blacks in my little hometown. Sadly, many of the same people cheering were unemployed and living in utter poverty. Like the children of Israel, they were looking for a deliverer from the malaise of their condition. Many of the older ones had worked in the withering heat of the day on local farms. Their wrinkled faces were soaked in tears as they reveled over “one of ours” finally being on top. Ironically, the views of Mr. Obama were the opposite to the way they had been raised. His views on homosexuality and abortion went against what many of them believed, taught and stood for. Yet, because many felt that “blood runs thicker than water” they voted for “the colored boy.”
Now three years later, more of them are unemployed and suffering from despair. The bloom is off the ideological rose but they still think he can be their Moses. They still see Republicans as standing up for the rich. They don’t realize that poor people don’t create jobs. Many have been so enslaved to poverty that they see the government as their ultimate liberator. Their president has spent three years pushing a healthcare program that few want, playing golf and traveling around the planet instead of creating an environment for jobs and self improvement. In reality, their hero has turned out to be nothing more than an ideological puppet of a system that many of them would hate if they really understood it. The folk of my small town are the “y’all” that Mr. Biden believes the Republicans want to put in chains. The truth is that blacks are being put in chains by liberal democratic ideas. I hope many of my friends from back home will see who is helping and who is hindering them.

So, who will they vote for in this election? Many will hold their noses and hope that Mr. Obama will somehow come to their rescue. Some will stay home believing that their vote will not make any difference. A very small few will vote for Mr. Romney. Sadly, others will drown themselves with some drug, alcohol or similar opiate or 'live in a dream' like Eleanor               Rigby.
