You Can’t Get Away From This Guy

My kids and I were watching the Orlando Magic/Miami Heat game. The commentators began discussing how Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh were playing together as a team. One person said one thing, the other said another then they switched to guess who? President Obama. The Jump Shooter in Chief gave some insightful comments on how they were not playing together as a team.

I looked at the kids and said “you can’t get away from this guy.” Radicals are trying to destroy us, the North Koreans are lobbing artillery shells into South Korea and the prez is commenting on the Miami Heat. Well, Mr. President, I hope you will apply this teamwork thing to getting jobs in the private sector, decreasing our tax burden and preventing pat downs in our airports. Maybe we ought to do some basketball diplomacy,I heard the new head of North Korea is an NBA fan himself. Maybe if you hook him up with some tickets and give him an autographed Kobe Bryant jersey, he would stop shooting at his brethren to the south.

Give Thanks!

Thanksgiving is just a few days away. Is the turkey ready with all the stuffing? How about Aunt Maude? Will she be coming in from out of town this year or is she afraid of the TSA pat down? Be sure to tell her to not forget her dentures, like she did last year.

As we approach Thanksgiving 2010, use this little acrostic to give thanks to and for those around you:

T-is for the task ahead
if we don’t complete it, we’ll all be dead

H-is for hanging tough
just plain talking just ain’t enough

A-is for America, USA
more want to come here than move away

N is for “Naw!” I don’t want the change
just me and my horse out there on the range

K-is for kindness, an American trait
“Yes Ma’am, please” and don’t be late

S-that’s for Savior, our Lord of all
Keep a stiff upper lip and your eye on the ball

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for reading... “frontporchpatriot.blogspot.com”

Reflections on Election 2010

Well, the election is over and President Obama still believes that his party lost because he did not communicate his message well enough. Some incredulously believe he is doing a great job. Others in his party believe people were equally disenchanted with both parties. I reckon there are as many points of view as there are voters. With everybody and his brother jumping into the waters of electoral reflections, I might as well wade in myself.

I felt good for the country as a whole. With pickups of several governorships and massive wins in the House of Representatives, we will have some great opportunities in redistricting and reducing the out of control spending. In addition, the senate will be closer to a stalemate than it is as I write this article. Why was there such a drastic change in this election?

While I am not a political analyst, I am a taxpayer with a perspective on things that I believe helped to change this election. First, I don’t want the government creating jobs, they are not made to do that. The government needs to let American business do what it does best, create jobs! Mr. Obama’s policies have given the government control of GM and other businesses. Secondly, I wonder just how much Mr. Obama actually likes America. He has spent more time apologizing for our faults and outright criticizing us while abroad, instead of touting the things that makes us truly great. I was appalled when he allowed the President of Mexico publicly castigate Arizona for its immigration law. He needs to realize that people still desire to come to this country, legally. Thirdly, and closely related, he seems to give preference to illegal aliens rather than legitimate candidates for citizenship who want to go through the legal process. The suit against the Arizona law was a good example of his preference. Fourth, he did not listen to the public when shoving the healthcare down our throats. I believe this angered more Americans than almost anything else in recent years. This law is so confusing that many Democrats don’t know what it will do, not for us, but to us. I believe history will prove that this law to be very unhealthy for the country.

However, believe it or not, there were some conservative positives that came from the election other than just the political gains. Mr. Obama’s policies helped to stimulate a return to old-fashioned common sense. Many of the people who voted for him actually came to themselves. They saw the realization of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thacher’s adage that “The problem with Socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.”

This is my take on the election of 2010…what do you think?

Is Liberalism A Mental Illness?

I once heard a radio talk show host say that “liberalism is a mental illness.” Though I discounted it then, I am beginning to have second thoughts about his comment.

I grew up when the Democrat party was, by today’s standards, a conservative party. For example, it was not a right-wing nut that said, “Ask now what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Those were the words of John F. Kennedy, a Democrat. Why then do I consider the party of my youth as victims of mental illness?

The short answer is Barack Obama.

This man who often talks about how the Republicans drove the car in the ditch when his policies are driving the car of state over a cliff! Most Americans did not want his healthcare program but he pressed the petal to the metal and pass what is arguably the most controversial bill in modern politics. Did the Democrats object? No, most of them voted for this monstrosity and tried to deny or avoid that fact in the mid-term elections. Apparently, the warm tingly feeling running down their legs prevented them from healing the people. To make matters worse, Ms Pelosi that we would like it after we passed it.

Now many of them stand on the edge of unemployment wondering what happened. The even more naive are trying to minimize the impact healthcare had on the election. Moreover, many say that the reason for their demise was that people didn’t like either party. While there may be a kernel of truth in their statement, even the most ignorant political observer would have to say, “it’s the healthcare bill stupid.” That is why I believe these guys are mentally ill to follow an unknown, slick-talking Chicago community over the cliff political disaster. Little do they realize that this man’s idealistic folly will be an economic burden on generations to come. The fact that seasoned, savvy politicians would follow this pied piper over the cliff, leaves me to conclude that…

“Liberalism is a Mental Illness.”

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

When I was a kid, one of my favorite TV programs was Gomer Pyle USMC. One of his favorite lines when something unexpected happened was “Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!” These words would often bring looks of frustration and disbelief to the faces of all who heard it.

Well, I just heard that some large industries may are considering dumping their healthcare programs…which would cause employees to do two things:

1-Not be able to keep their healthcare programs (as touted by the President) and
2-Have to go to the government program, which would be a further burden on guess who? Taxpayers!

For the niave, this may have come as a surprise but to those of us who predicted this would happen, it is no real surprise. It is an issue of industrial survival. These industries could have chosen to downsize or cut their employee base or to cut their healthcare program to insure their survival. I know, the government may give them a tax-break, but that is a small consolation compared to their long-term loss because of the healthcare program. Lost in this discussion is the fact that businesses are out to first survive and secondly to make a profit.

Again, we see the virtual ignorance of the Democrat party by their literally shoving this healthcare foolishness down our throats, when most Americans said they did not want it. The very fact that anyone could vote for a candidate that supported the healthcare bill still baffles me. These voters are not relational thinkers but are void of basic understanding of connectivity.

My encouragement to each of you is to get out and vote so that the Democrats will be the ones surprised by their loss of the house and senate next Tuesday.

Juan Williams and the Liberal Plantation Owners at NPR

Well, Juan Williams discovered what happens when your ideas go counter to those of the NPR plantation owners. His view of how he feels when he rides on an airplane with someone dressed in muslim garb got him his walking papers. Basically, he learned what many of us already knew, free speech is OK as long as it agrees with the person who signs your paycheck.

In reality, liberals are more closed-minded than the conservatives they often castigate. If Juan doesn’t know that by now, I don’t know if there is any hope for him or those of his ilk. Regardless of how you may feel about his statement, doesn’t he have the right to express those views. If the truth be known, many more than Juan feel the same way.

We are in a battle in which out tactics are similar to those of someone using Marques of Queensbury rules against a Mike Tyson type fighter. Only the niave believe they will win in such a scheme. I wonder if Juan’s former employees are those niave ones? Only time will tell.

An Open Letter to Mitch McConnell

Dear Mr. McConnell,

I read an article discussing how you want to work with President Obama. Well, I am a staunch conservative who believes Mr. Obama is bad for our country. I believe his socialist policies will ruin our great nation, if left unchallenged. His views go counter to virtually everything that made us great. He has been taught by people who dislike our way of life and possibly hate America. His pastor even curses our country.

I am sure you know these things but I am not sure you realize how much we loathe his policies, not him. If not, here is a short overview of my feelings and probably the feelings of most conservatives:

- Mr. Obama is a socialist ideologue regardless to what he says

- Most of his associates have never had a “real job” and dislike those of us who have
- In his world, government solves problems, in my world, regular folk do

- In my world, the private sector creates jobs, not government

- In my world, less government is better

Well, these are just a few feelings from a nation loving citizen. I have worked hard to elect conservatives. While I would love for them to be republicans, they don’t necessarily have to be. Furthermore, if you spend more time trying to work with Mr. Obama than representing conservatives…you figure it out.

The Beck and Sharpton Rallys

I was very embarrassed to see Reverend Al Sharpton criticize the Glenn Beck rally at the Lincoln Memorial, last Saturday. This once lion of civil rights just did not get it. Instead of Sharpton joining with Glenn Beck, he met at a football stadium to talk about the past. Beck talked about moving ahead with God as our leader.

Reverend Sharpton came across as a bitter old black man who is out of touch with the reality of our times. Beck came across as a man who knew the times and the seasons. Why is this the case?

Reverend Sharpton lives in an era long past. He still believes or gives the impression that government is the salvation of minorities instead of self effort. He, and those of his ilk, talk about the dream but encourage being part of the nightmare. Lastly, Reverend Sharpton tries to hide his liberalism behind a pulpit that would have be criticized if he were a conservative.

Mr. Beck, on the other hand, has made a meteoric media ascent to a place of national popularity. His desire to have the nation return to the Judaeo-Christian ethics of the past is refreshing. Instead of establishing a theocracy, he espouses living the golden rule (do unto others as you would have them do unto you). Who, in his right or left mind, could oppose that? Lastly, Mr. Beck epitomizes what he preaches and has worked very smartly to establish a place of admiration and emulation.

The Pot Calling the Kettle...White

I was taken aback recently when I heard former Congressman Walter Fauntroy saying that the Tea Party movement was “exclusive” as he discussed the Glenn Beck event at the Lincoln Memorial. Here you have a guy who supports the black caucus, which is 100% black, while the Tea Party includes all colors.

Whether one will admit it or not, prejudice is an equal opportunity destroyer. Contrary to popular belief, blacks can be as prejudiced as whites, just ask Shirley Sherrod. She was thrown under the bus (fired) by the Obama administration before they did their due diligence and discovered that she was not actually prejudice against the white farmer she helped in Georgia.

Many of the old guard black leaders harbor a root of bitterness that could insure that they end up with the very people they hated here on earth. Many who speak of brotherly love only mean that it exists between them and those who look like them.

So, give Brother Beck a break and let him hold his meeting. Perhaps the visage of all colors together will help the country realize the true dream of Dr. King. I am sure if Dr. King was alive, he would again be the key note speaker.

Acting Stupidly?

Shirley Sherrod got a first-hand experience of non-racial prejudice by the Obama Administration. Without examining any of the facts of the case against Ms Sherrod, according to her, the Whitehouse fired her. Now they are trying to backpedal and rehire her. Well, if she accepts another job from them, would she also be acting stupidly?
Prejudice is making a decision without gathering a reasonable amount of facts. The Agriculture Secretary probably acted out of emotion probably prompted by the President’s desire to not have a racist on his team. The problem is that just as the administration acted or spoke stupidly against the Tea Party, it did the same thing against Ms Sherrod.
Prejudice is only a third of the racism triad. The other parts are hatred and ignorance. Since racism is an equal opportunity destroyer, it infects all races. Will it ever end? Not as long as differences of appearance and ideas exist. This administration which touted itself as post-racial has opened a pandora’s box and ripped an ugly scab which will begin a new era of bleeding across the cultural landscape of our country. Heretofore, people accused of racism kept quiet but not now. The Tea Party will not just roll over and go away. Mr. Obama said if they bring a knife, you bring a gun.
Well, the gauntlet has been thrown down and patriotic Americans will answer the challenge on November 4, 2010.

Tea Partiers…Beware of NAACP Diversion Attempt

Well, the out of touch NAACP  or National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is now hurling accusations of racism against the Tea Party. Of all things, they are charging the Tea Party with racism. Racism is a horrible thing that infects all colors. Implicit is the belief that only people of color can be targets of racism. Sadly, racism is an equal opportunity destroyer.
The Tea Party has done much to remind Americans of the foundations of our constitution. The Tea Party patriots believe that returning to the foundations of democracy will help all people irregardless of their color. Implicit in the name of the NAACP is a seeming built in exclusion of everyone except “colored people.” Ironically, they call the Tea Party racists!
I believe this is nothing but a feeble attempt to get the Tea Party members’ eyes off the ball. Whether this is a coordinated effort with their democratic base or not, I don’t know. However, it does not take a genius to guess which party their efforts will help. That’s why the Tea Party cannot go for the red meat because their objectives are more noble than those of the NAACP.
When you are ahead going into the fourth quarter, the worst thing you can do is to shoot yourself in the foot, I hope the Tea Party understands that principle.

Eulogizing A Domestic Terrorist

As a child, I remember watching my dad getting his gun to make sure that our church had not been firebombed during the 1960’s by the Ku Klux Klan. I also remember sitting our church scared that we would be killed like the little girls in Alabama. In those days, media pictures of men in white sheets struck fear in the hearts of me and my friends. Politically, almost everyone in my neighborhood voted democrat. John Kennedy was a near messianic figure.

Now, fast forward over four decades to the memorial service of the late Senator Robert Byrd. Both former President Bill Clinton and President Barak Obama gave this scourge of civil rights a pass. Clinton had the audacity to suggest that Byrd did what he did to get elected. Obama also inferred that Byrd had “seen the error of his ways” and changed in his latter years. Had this been the funeral of a Strom Thurmond or some other segregationist, would this duo have been so gracious? Trent Lott lost his job for just complimenting Mr. Thurmond. Yet Clinton and Obama nearly canonized this former domestic terrorist.

I was raised as a democrat and most of my family still votes the party line. Yet most of them would not be as kind as Mr. Clinton and Mr. Obama probably because of their experiences with some of Mr. Byrd’s comrades.

I forgave him for what he did. However, I am against Clinton and Obama making more of a man in his death than in his life. Mr. Byrd was a politician who would do whatever it took to get elected irregardless of who might get hurt in the process. Sadly, today’s terrorists have traded their white robes for black robes of academia and they have the potential to do more harm to blacks than men of Mr. Bryd’s ilk.

"Open Mouth, Insert Foot," The Steele Doctrine

Michael Steele, head of the RNC, has a proclivity for putting his foot in his mouth. In a time when republicans have the democrats on the run, Mr. Steele continues to shoot himself squarely in the foot. As a result, he gives fodder to the democrats and helps them to live to fight another day. Someone once opined that when your enemy is destroying himself, stay out of his way. Mr. Steele seems bent on helping the enemy. His several gaffs make me wonder if his staff reviews his speeches or if he speaks “off the cuff” or from some other place every time he speaks. I hope in the days to come that he will “think twice and speak once.”

While his comment about Afghanistan being Mr. Obama’s war was ill-timed, his other comments or lack of comments bother me even more. I recently wrote an article, “A Message to Michael” which discussed his inability to explain to a group of black students why they should be republicans bothered me even more.  If our leader does not know why someone should not be a republican, should he be our leader?

The good news is that Mr. Steele’s term will expire around January 2011…the bad news is that Mr. Steele’s term will expire around January 2011.

Republicans will have the chance to take back the house and probably more seats in the senate. However, if our leader continues to speak such foolishness, we could end up continuing the nightmare in which we presently exist.

So Much for Defending America

Recently, our president stood by while Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Englishman Paul McCartney spoke ill of our country. This was a shameless act against our great country, regardless of the validity of their comments. Mr. Calderon slammed the Arizona Immigration Law while McCartney slammed former President Bush. The sad thing is that did nothing to admonish either speaker. Did he not know that Mexican immigration laws make ours look tame by comparison? Did he now know that McCartney’s England may soon have the same status of a near-third world nation as Mexico?

No matter whether Obama agrees with the Arizona law or continues to blame President Bush, neither of these foreigners should have been allowed to get away with their comments. This is our country and if our own president will not stand up for us, even with our mistakes, then who will?

I will tell you who will. It will be the new crop of elected officials who will replace the present group after the November elections. It will be brave Americans who are fed up with this anti-American party. It will be those who love and revere our Constitution and revere our way of life.

Mr. President, I have traveled to over 20 countries around the world and most of the people there would give all they have to live here. In light of that fact…why not defend us?

A Tale of Two ID Checks

While watching a television (TV) report alleging reports of racism, I almost forgot that I had to go to the bank. As I drove to the bank, I reflected on the TV report implying that many Americans believe a recently enacted Arizona Law (SB 1070) is racist. According to a New York Times article dated May 8, 2010:

“The measure requires police officers to ask for proof of legal status whenever they have a "reasonable suspicion'' that someone they have stopped for some other purpose is an illegal alien.”

Apparently, police are required to ask for forms of identification during a traffic stop that could either validate one’s citizenship or cause officials to question it.

What does that have to do with my trip to the bank? Well, as I entered the bank a nice lady asked me what I needed. I answered her question, completed some paperwork and proceeded to the teller. The teller asked me for guess what? Two forms of identification. I briefly joked with him comparing his request with the new Arizona law. We both laughed and I gladly showed him two forms of identification.

What do these two incidents illustrate?

Well, since I had the money in the bank, I did not mind showing two IDs to get it. If an ID was not required, anyone could claim to be me. Moreover, it even bothers me when a clerk does not ask for some form of ID when I do financial transactions. For example, I have the following statement written on my credit card: please ask for ID. The card could have been stolen. I feel the same way about illegal immigrants in our country.

If a person is a legal citizen, he or she need not fear this law. However, if the person stopped by Arizona authorities is not a legal citizen, they probably need to be concerned. After the passage of SB 1070, I read that many illegal immigrants were moving to other states such as Texas and California. One such person lamented ‘why should I have to move, I am not a criminal because I haven’t killed anyone.’ This person does not understand our legal system since they are here illegally. We should enforce our immigration laws or repeal them…seems simple to me. Also, what about the immigrants who came here and got their citizenship legally? Not checking IDs seems to be a slap in the faces of those naturalized citizens.

WHAT SAY YOU AMIGO?

A Message to Michael

Recently, Michael Steele, head of the RNC, did a shameful job representing the Republican National Committee (RNC) at De Paul University. In a reply to a student, Mr. Steele showed just how excited he is about being head of the RNC.

Why should an African-American vote Republican?

"You really don't have a reason to, to be honest -- we haven't done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True," Republican National Chairman Michael Steele told 200 DePaul University students Tuesday night.

Now let me get this straight, the head of the RNC could not come up with a reason why an African-American should vote Republican? If the leader of our party cannot tell a black student, or anyone else for that matter, why he or she should vote Republican, he should not be the leader of our party. Perhaps, he could have reminded those students of the following ten reasons I came up with:

1-The liberal leaders of the Democrat Party via their support of abortion has and continues to contribute to the deaths of thousands of black babies since Roe v Wade. If Republicans had contributed to even a fraction of such, there would be an outcry exceeding that of a supersonic boom.

2-Tax cuts to the rich have given jobs to blacks and whites. Now the demonization of the rich will actually hurt blacks more than any other color. Very few poor people provide jobs to anyone.

3-Most nationally known black leaders are bought and paid for by liberal benefactors. Many of these leaders who once called abortion black genocide now heartily support the increase of Planned Parenthood facilities in black communities.

4-Blacks need to see self-reliance as an avenue of liberation instead of government policies. Republican free-market philosophies best provide for self-reliance and prosperity.

5-Republican ideas such as providing vouchers to allow students to attend private schools instead of failing public schools will best aid black liberation.

6-Republicans believe individualism, not the government, should determine a person’s destiny. The Democrat Party knows it has blacks in their pocket as evidenced by the percentage of blacks who perennially vote the democratic party line.

7-Democratic welfare policies have contributed to the decimation of black families. The traditional black family is increasingly becoming extinct.

8-Republicans believe there is a difference between being black and being homosexual. Democrats use civil rights policies to treat gays the same as blacks. One is immutable, one is not, you decide.

9- Republicans believe the constitution means what it says and is not a “living, breathing document.” Liberal interpretations of the constitution continues to lean towards giving the government more rather than less power over our lives.

10-Blacks are not wards of liberalism but thinking individuals who should base their vote on the facts rather than social tradition. Social tradition enslaves while decisions based on facts empower and liberate.

These are just a few of the reasons why blacks should vote Republican. “What say you?”

The Demonization of the Tea Party Movement, as I See It

Within the past weeks, the Tea Party movement has been dubbed as a racist movement. Isolated signs telling of white people’s discontent have been touted as documented proof of this accusation. The object of such media coverage is to build a rift between this movement and people of all colors. The rationale goes like this, “if you can’t beat them, in the arena of ideas, do all you can to minimize their impact.”
Recently, I saw a news clip of a reporter asking a black man if he felt comfortable at a Tea Party meeting. Probably to her surprise, he said ‘these are my people-Americans.’ I am sure her producer swallowed hard before putting that interview on the air. I am certain that in the future, paid minorities by liberal masters will complain of perceived racist treatment and other atrocities at Tea Party meetings.
After a careful examination of this movement, I have come to the following conclusion: Liberals are the real racist. Here’s why:
- The Great Society Program of the 1960’s did little to help the plight of black Americans. Blacks still see the government as a sort of caretaker of their liberties and prosperity instead of using their God-given abilities to move ahead.
- Abortion, a sort of liberal sacrament, has destroyed more black lives than the Ku Klux Klan ever did. Senator Byrd’s old buddies are probably proud of this aspect of liberalism.

- The media recognized black leadership is bought and paid-for by liberalism. Black leaders who once saw abortion as genocide now remain silent as dollars roll in to their accounts.

- The black church, once the womb of black leadership, has become a breeding ground for liberal mouth pieces. Liberation theology has replaced the previous gospel of spiritual dependence upon the God of former generations.

To reiterate, it’s liberalism that should be decried as racist for the atrocities
foisted upon the black race. The Tea Party movement is not a racist movement but one that seeks to inform and empower all Americans who want to see a return to true freedom and self-reliance.

That’s how I see it…”what say you?”

Conservatives, Beware of Distractions

It’s interesting to see how liberals are attacking the Tea Party movement with all kinds of accusations from racism to sedition. That’s interesting because the real racists and seditionists are liberals. Bill Clinton’s attack on protestors is laughable when you consider that he and Hillary could write the book on protests from their earlier days. Rush Limbaugh recently answered the Clinton volley with a masterful review of the reasons for conservative protests. One would think that the liberals would applaud the wonderful opportunity to protest guaranteed by our constitution. Yet I digress…
Conservatives need to keep their eyes on the prize and not on the flies. Liberals tried at first to ridicule the Tea Party constituency by calling them “Tea Baggers,” a reference to unsavory practices actually used by some of the liberal constituents. When that did not work, they pulled the race card. What they did not realize is that the Tea Party movement would be against this government if Mr. Obama was as white as one of Senator Bryd’s old sheets.
Liberals want to keep conservatives from focusing on working to defeat liberal candidates. They will do this by psychological “rop-a-dope” and any method to scatter the movement. Conservatives cannot go for the head fake. We must convene neighborhood meetings, send e-mails, write blogs and use a variety of methods to let people know of the impending danger posed by big government.

Again, conservatives keep your eyes on the prize and not on the flies!

America: One Citizen's View

I have travelled to over 21 foreign countries during my tenure in a previous job. I found it interesting that people in each country people wanted to come to America, if they got the opportunity. They often said that they liked America because you can be whatever you want to be. Someone called this the gate test meaning that if a gate was opened in each country around the world, people would be more interested in coming to America instead of staying in their country. Why is that?
Well, unlike many countries, America offers unlimited opportunities to “be all that you can be.” One example of this principle can be found in the life of Joseph Pulitzer of Putlizer Prize fame. He came to America and worked in a variety of vocations before becoming a publishing magnate. Rather than cursing the darkness of his poverty, poor English and physical weaknesses, he kept working until he became successful. As a result of his persistence, the words Pulitzer Prize have become a household name to all of us.
I have personally benefited from the many opportunities of America. I was born to a single mother and raised by my extended family including my mother, grandparents and cousins. After high school, I went into the military. While in the service, I went to university and got my degree after seven years of “toil, sweat and tears.” I too chose to “light a candle instead of cursing the dark.” That’s the greatness of America…success is not guaranteed, opportunity is.
Sadly, the policies of the Obama administration tries to level the playing field of success instead of opportunity. Each person has individual desires. Those desires may inspire one person to become a doctor while another may become a construction worker. As long as you chase your dream, then so be it!

Education Reform or Education Control?

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to college, the government is now taking over our college education loan system. After it takes effect, the government, not private banks will dole out loans to college students. That’s bad enough but if you extrapolate this government takeover, you will eventually have government determining what students can or cannot have as a major.
For example, it is not out of the realm of possibility that someone may come up with the idea that people need to major in social science type courses vice Math or Physics courses. Also, young people may be “encouraged” to major in Community Organizing rather than Business Administration. And what about throwing in a practicum of community service as required courses instead of electives. This reminds me of the old adage which says “He who has the gold rules.”
Mark my words, the government takeover of student loans will take on onerous tones that could mitigate our personal freedoms. I hope I am wrong but believe I am correct.

What do you think?

Let Them Know How You Really Feel !

Well...They Did It, What Next?

I watched the healthcare bill vote with a sinking feeling in my stomach. Here you have the government taking over ostensibly a large portion of our economy. I watched Bart Stupak talk about Mr. Obama’s agreement to sign an executive order preventing federal funds from being used for abortion. That was like saying, sign this check and I will change it before I cash it. The idea that Stupak believes the most pro-abortion president in recent history will somehow help him is laughable…stay tuned Bart.
What next? Well the democrats understand that the townsfolk are angry and now they will try to get immigration reform before they are thrown out in November. Immigration reform will give them more votes hopefully to counter anger in November. What they don’t realize is that people did not want this bill, as it is written. The idea that a bill that will impact such a large segment of society was passed without a single republican vote reeks to high heaven. Anyone who understands the workings of a free market economy knows that this bill is an accident looking for a place to happen…to us.

Bin-Laden and Manson Have the Same Rights?!

I was a child when Charles Manson’s gang killed Sharon Tate in the 1960s. This horrible event shocked even the most liberal of our citizens. After capture, Charles Manson and his cohorts were tried and sentenced in the U. S. court system, as they should have been because they were citizens of the U. S. Fast forward to a few days ago when Attorney General Eric Holder inferred that Charles Manson and Osama Bin-Laden have essentially the same rights! This appalling statement only added fuel to the increasing fire between the Obama administration and most Americans. In a bizarre continuation, Holder went on to say that Bin-Laden will never live to be read his Miranda rights. I wondered “why should any terrorist be read Miranda rights?”
The present healthcare debacle and the treatment of foreign terrorists as citizens not only confuses us but spits on our justice system. In a previous adventure, I spent years fighting the socialist system being foisted on us by this administration. Comments such as the ones stated by Mr. Holder make me wonder if my efforts were in vain.
Some have said that any complaint against Mr. Obama is tantamount to racism, I disagree, it is part of the American way of life. No one is above the law and no one is immuned from criticism. In all things, we should ask ourselves, regardless of the criticism, “does it make sense?” If it makes sense, then insist that the person being criticized answer the question, whether it is Mr. Obama or Mr. Holder.

Political Correctness on a Field Trip

My son asked me to serve as a chaperone on a field trip to a local wildlife museum. Even though I had a lot of work to do, I chose to go with him anyway. The place was a nice palatial building with upper and lower levels. It displayed statues of all kinds of animals and touted the importance of preserving the rain forest, which we used to call the jungle. That did not bother me but what was said during the movie did.
The movie was an expose on several kinds of whales, including the humped back whale, the bottle nose dolphin and the manitee, just to mention a few. After listening to two of the segments, something hit me as a consistent theme: man is destroying these animals. The presentation went on to accuse mankind of everything from running over whales with boats to taking away their food supply. I was shocked! This place would have made Al Gore proud. The only thing missing was a discussion of global warming.
As I left, I thought that everyone has a point of view. However, I did not pay my money to have such political correctness foisted on my son, with no opportunity to offer an opposing point of view. Needless to say, this place will not get any more of my business.

This Bumper Sticker About Says It All!

When I was in high school, one of my teachers told me something I shall never forget:    "When your outgo exceeds your income, then your upkeep will be  your downfall."
It was true then and it's true now!  I hope the government will heed these words and change its reckless spending ways.

Abortion and Death Panels

I remember listening to debates about abortion before The Supreme Court rendered their fateful decision in the 1970’s. One of the arguments against abortion was that if we allowed abortion for any reason, eventually, it would lead to euthanasia. The logic was that if we could terminate the life of a baby in the womb, then it would not be long before that same society could terminate older people. Well, that prophecy has come true.
The Obama healthcare plan would give authority to panels that would result in a decision on who would live and who would not live. Sarah Palin was right, death panels would of necessity be part of this new program. With just so much healthcare and drugs available, someone would have to be denied. Sadly, that someone could be those unable to make a viable contribution to society or some other erudite sounding reason.
Sadly, we are nearing Orwell’s 1984 whether we like it or not. Unless there is a resurgence of morality, the predictions of the prophets of the 1970’s will be here before we know it or could it be “the end of the world as we know it?”

Ode to Al Gore

Like a chicken with its head cut off
old Al Gore runs around

Touting global warming
while talking with a frown

They say we’re overheating
as many places freeze

While Obama pushes healthcare
with the economy on its knees

Will someone please step forward…
with just a little common sense?

Or America as a nation
may crumble at our expense

Should Republicans Play Ball With President Obama?

I was intrigued by Mr. Obama’s recent meeting with republicans. He held his own against the republicans, many of whom seemed stunned by his presence. I was a little shocked that uncontrolled laughter did not breakout when he seriously said, “I am not an ideologue.” To me, that statement was an obvious contradition...but I digress.  Rather than reviewing comments from the meeting let’s look at some  realities of political life:
1-Even with a supermajority, Mr. Obama was unable to pass healthcare or cap and trade. His desire for bipartisanship shows that he had not provided leadership or persuasion on issues he, but not most Americans, consider important.
2-The election of Scott Brown potentially derailed the Obama express. Now, Mr. Obama wants to meet with people he has heretofore had virtually nothing to do with. This is almost laughable.
3-Most Americans do not want healthcare or cap and trade. It’s amazing how democrats laud polls when they confirm their policies; yet they ignore them, to their eventual defeat, when the polls go counter to their policies.
4-Most Americans do not want terrorists tried as American citizens. They believe terrorists should be tried as part of a military tribunal. The justice department made a big mistake by declaring these guys as domestic criminals.
With these realities set forth, I again ask “should republicans play ball with Obama?” I believe they should…play basketball with him. He has a mean left-handed jumper, similar to his politics. We could let Scott Brown jump center against Mr. Obama. But this is the limit I think the republicans should go with this left leaning ideologue.
Concerning playing political ball with this man, I think republicans should shy away from him. He erroneously feels that governing means passing policies that run counter to the will of the people and calling it courageous leadership. He does not understand that the American people want jobs more than healthcare or cap and trade. Republicans need to understand that they do not need to become propaganda fodder for Mr. Obama’s public relations schemes. Republicans need to make it clear that he needs to reprioritize issues for discussion and to restart healthcare from the bottom up after handling the higher priorities.

Jump Ball Y’all!

Why Mr. Reid should Call U-Haul...Early

Over the past few months, President Barack Obama has posited polices that will eventually hurt the democrat party and give him a one term presidency. Mr. Obama went to Virginia and New Jersey, not to count Copenhagen with the same results, a loss. Now I hear he will go to Nevada to campaign for Senator Harry Reid.
I smiled recently as I read how Mr. Obama criticized people going to Las Vegas. In a twist of irony, the president actually talked about people not gambling away their grocery money while he will soon spend the inheritance of generations unborn. Yet, like a zombie, Mr. Reid continues trying to carry Mr. Obama’s water on issues like cap and trade, healthcare and other budget busting proposals.
If Mr. Reid is reelected in November, it will be a bigger miracle than Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts. Since that won’t happen, I recommend Mr. Reid call the local U-Haul number at 202-529-4676.

An Open Letter to President Obama

Dear Mr. President:
First of all, I want you to know that I was raised in a democrat household and many of my relatives still vote the party line. Unlike me, they see government as a type of nanny for survival. Many of them enjoyed your recent State of The Union monologue. While I still love them, I do not love your policies and where you are taking our country. Here’s why I don’t vote like my family members:

1-I believe government healthcare will ruin our economy. I believe the private sector is better positioned to run healthcare. The government is a poor business manager. Over the past decade, we have gotten nothing but deficits from our government.

2-Your policy of trying the terrorists in New York is not good. I believe the military tribunals would do a better job in a much safer venue. Contrary to what many say, we are in a war and not some man caused whatever. These people want to kill us and any coddling of them with legal gymnastics will not change their opinion of us.

3-I believe the recent ruling by the Supreme Court to allow businesses to give in political campaigns was the right one. Your may not have known it but a law exists that prohibits foreign governments from giving directly or indirectly into U. S. campaigns. The issue is will we regard this law, just as some have [for example] immigration laws?

4-I believe it was wrong for your party to give Senators Nelson and Landrieu special consideration to vote for their votes. I know you said you knew nothing about it but you would definitely benefit from it. Your party has given many of us a bad taste for politicians and has mobilized many of us to help them need other employment in November 2010.

Well, these are just a few musings of a former democrat. I hope you will reconsider your policies and recognize that small business not government creates jobs. I also want you to know that my family prays for you everyday.

Sincerely,

Frontporchpatriot

Dr. Strangelove Lives

I don’t think the dems realize that Dr. Strangelove is at the helm of the U. S. starship and he is steering us and them on a cutoff course with economic disaster. Whether or not President Obama realizes it, the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts was a statement against his governance. What part of no (to healthcare, to cap and trade, to granting U. S. citizens rights to terrorists etc.) does he not understand? He ran as a moderate but now governs so far left that he scares many of his previous supporters, as well as myself, a former democrat.
To paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill, Obama is a political conundrum, wrapped in a paradox, covered only by a thin layer of ozone. I only hope the republicans don’t try to show their bipartisanship by joining into this ever-increasing wreck. The brave statesmen of years gone by must be spinning in their graves like a top at this man’s disregard and seeming contempt for the constitution. His arrogance and self-centeredness is only exceeded by the tax money he holds in his slush fund or the deficit he has added to since coming into office.

Someone once said, “there can be no great disappointment where there was no great love.” I love this country and suffered to help keep in free. Yet, I now feel the very forces I fought to keep away from us are now becoming part of our government. This is not the change many voted for.

The Brown-Coakley Smackdown!

I am watching the news and with 70% of the votes in, Republican Scott Brown leads Martha Coakley 53% to 46%. It looks like Massachusetts will send a Republican senator to Washington to replace of all people, the late iconic Senator Edward Kennedy. It is appropriate that the same state that helped this country win freedom centuries ago, will now help us regain our freedom.

Many say this election is no referendum on Obama, but that argument loses it power when one looks at the loss of the Kennedy seat. As a regular guy, I am appalled by the Chicago style politics of Mr. Obama. He just does not get it! Neither does the people who are blindly following him over a cliff to political disaster. However, in the midst of all of this, I hope the Republicans get a spine and return to conservative values that most Americans desire.

On the eve of one of the most devastating political defeats in history, Mr. Obama’s “double-down” philosophy will all but insure the defeat of the democrats for at least two presidential election cycles. Again, Mr. Obama does not get it! We don’t want increased taxes, penalties for not having healthcare, buying off politicians, rewarding unions and other onerous policies.

Mr. President, give it up or history will show you as an ideological demagogue who drove your party to obscurity.

Harry, Billy, Obama and Black Talk

Harry Reid’s comment about Obama not talking like a minority and Bill Clinton’s alleged comment about Obama bringing coffee, if it was years ago are interesting. For a longtime, Republicans and conservatives have long been called racists and other things. Never has any liberal commented on Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood, pioneer referring to blacks as ‘weeds of society.’ When will blacks learn that liberals may outwardly give the impression of being their friends but inwardly they could care less. In fact, blacks have been used as pawns for liberalism and no one says anything. Legitimate civil rights legislation won by blacks have been used to gain rights for homosexuals when being black is not the same as being homosexual.
What about when Trent Lott commented supporting Senator Strom Thurmond, he was excoriated and eventually forced to resign. This double standard is a shame and a sham. Yet blacks continue to die from abortion and suffer from liberal policies.
Comments such as the ones by Reid and Clinton should increase the “duh” factor among blacks. How long will they vote for a party that gives empty promises and actually laughs at them in private? How long will a noble race whose ancestors helped make this country great through their toil and sweat, follow a party that helps to destroy their seed? Will blacks continue to be conned, used and laughed at by those who purport to care for them?

Well, ask Harry and Billy…they’ll tell you, maybe.
