The NBA (National Basketball Association) Goes Politically Correct

While watching a recent tournament game, I was shocked by a commercial denouncing a young man who said a certain action was “gay.”  A black NBA player came on the screen to decry the young man’s comment.   Seemingly, the NBA equates being black, which has always been a genetic trait, with being a homosexual, which for the most part is a choice.  Even if it is not a choice, it is changeable.  The NBA, which is a collection of mostly financially affluent players, is stepping up to help protect a group of people who are, for the most part, not exactly paupers themselves.

I have played basketball most of my life and have long enjoyed watching the talented athletes of the NBA.    However, I came away from the commercial with some questions about the seeming support of the NBA of this, until years ago, aberrant lifestyle.  For example…

1-Does the NBA believe being a homosexual is the same as being black?
2-Does the NBA support the gay rights cause?
3-How did it choose this cause when there are so many others (prolife movement, tornado relief etc.) out there, that need their help?

Implicit in my discussion is the view that no one should be assaulted for their sexual preference, skin color or any other reason.  However, the criteria for civil rights should not be the same as sexual preference.  I have seen many former homosexuals but never a former black.
I know what it is to suffer discrimination.  Sadly, since many of the players come from mostly liberal institutions, the indoctrinational seeds of past decades are finally beginning to sprout.  As a result, in a few years, lifestyles once seen as injurious to blacks will ride on the same civil rights bus with equal legitimacy.  This would be a tragedy of exponential proportion.

Will someone please call a foul on the NBA for unnecessary support?
