Recently, The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) was criticized concerning a sting operation that went bad. Someone in the governmental hierarchy came up with the brilliant idea to sell deadly firearms to Mexican drug cartel members and then try to trace them using GPS devices embedded in the stocks of the weapons. Well, the operation went bad and some speculate that one of our border agents was killed by one of the weapons in addition to others in Mexico. When asked by a reporter about the operation, the President said rightly that he knew nothing about it. However, since this thing won’t go away, I suspect that Mr. Obama will eventually be forced by circumstances to make a speech on this issue. His speech may sound something like this:
My fellow Americans. Recently, I have learned that the ATF created a program whereby guns were sold to Mexican drug cartel members in an effort to track their movement. While I knew nothing about this operation, I can’t know everything, I believe that this operation will help curtail one of our nations biggest problems, too many guns.
To begin with, the guns sold to cartel members kept guns off the streets of America. Guns in Mexico cannot be in the U. S. at the same time. Secondly, these weapons helped us to develop GPS technology that is on the cutting edge of tracking devices. This technology will eventually help us to save thousands of American lives by placing GPS devices on all guns sold in America. I will sign a Presidential Order forthwith requiring that all guns made in America have GPS devices on placed on them. In addition to tracking the weapons, the GPS devices will be very helpful in finding lost hunters and wayward criminals. I am even considering a policy in which the GPS number will match the person owning the gun. Thirdly, the weapons sold greatly increased the revenue of the local economies in the towns where the guns were sold. This unwitting infusion of well-needed money into the southwest economies will help stimulate their private sector by increasing money to other industries that will supplement the part of our economy.
As Americans, we must take advantage of these opportunities to “think outside the box” and exercise American ingenuity and technology. On behalf of all of our citizens, I want to thank the ATF for their unique strategies in protecting our borders and in developing ways to curb the proliferation of too many firearms.
Thank you and good evening!
